Join our three-day (Sept. 28-30) workshop focused on developing a large landscape painting. This workshop aims to address the common struggle artists face in maintaining a sustained effort and the importance of taking breaks during the painting process. Led by John P. Lasater IV, an acclaimed artist known for his numerous awards in national competitions and his expertise in landscape subjects, participants will learn techniques to infuse vitality into their studio landscape paintings. John's mastery of pictorial concepts, open-form painting, naturalism, sophisticated color mixing, and design principles will be shared through insightful lectures, daily demonstrations on one large painting of his own, and hands-on guidance as students develop one large landscape over three days. Prepare to be enlightened and challenged by his wealth of experience in painting and teaching.
Here’s what artists have said about John’s workshops:
“Though I’m not a workshop junkie, I’ve been to enough workshops to realize that good painters are not necessarily good teachers. You are consistently good at both. I’m happy if I take away one or two useful concepts from a workshop, but I have learned a great deal more from you.” —Megan L
“I felt that after you got to know our individual abilities, you really fine-tuned your comments for each of us. I also appreciated how open you were in answering questions…and your humor. Your workshop left me feeling prepared, motivated and inspired to continue my own practice. Thanks, again, for being so generous with your talent and knowledge.” —Jenny W
“You taught me something more than ‘how to paint what I see’ more effectively, although I did learn that. I came away from the workshop understanding more about creating art. Every person in the workshop produced work that seemed to reflect their own spirit and their own journey. It was a pretty special learning experience.” —Kathryn F
