Handwoven Cut and Sewn Garments Workshop by Belinda Ernest

$175 March 27 – April 24 (no class on April 3) for a total of four sessions, 1 – 3:30 p.m.

In this four-session class, students learn how to cut, edge-finish and sew with handwoven fabrics. Using a provided pattern, each student will cut and sew a long unlined vest called a tabard and use a couture finish to enclose the inside seams. Prerequisite: handwoven fabric (washed and pressed) as calculated in the “Designing Fabric for Garments” class taught by Lynn Tedder.

Each student brings one half yard of either a nice cotton or silk dupioni to match or contrast with your handwoven yardage (washed and pressed) for the Hong Kong seam finishing; Fray Check; portable sewing machine including all feet for your machine; dressmaker pins; sharp scissors or rotary cutter; sewing thread to match woven fabric; and a large Fiskars-type cutting mat (if you already have one). All other materials will be shared.
